It’s Freddie here to update you on a couple of our most recent gigs. The tour has been going great, and we’ve been welcomed very warmly by everyone we’ve met. The band, crew, managers, videographer and bus drivers are all getting along very well, and we’re having an absolute blast. So here’s how the past couple of gigs went:
Tuesday June 24 - Munich, Germany:

On Tuesday we arrived at the venue in Munich, Germany. This was the third of our shows as support for Judas Priest. Our allotted set time was sixty minutes, but we went on about five minutes early so we could add My Own Savior to the list. Jon and I donned black attire this night as opposed to blue denim that is worn most nights. The stage was dark and the crowd was cheering as we started the show with Dark Saga. The cheers grew exponentially louder as soon as Matt walked up and started into “the deal was rigged.” The crowd was fired up for a night of metal, and from the second we hit the stage until the end of the last song, they kept the energy going at full strength. Our performances seem to be getting tighter and tighter from one show to the next. Our crew has been doing a great job of keeping the shows flowing smoothly.

The venue had a long catwalk leading from the dressing rooms to the stage. It was the perfect vantage point to watch Priest from, and as usual, they delivered the goods. We hung around the venue for an hour or two after the show before boarding the bus for Switzerland.
Wednesday June 25 - Hutwill, Switzerland:

Our fourth and final show supporting Priest took place at a sports arena in Hutwill, Switzerland. Our dressing rooms for the night were hockey locker rooms - skates included. Airbourne from Melbourne, Australia opened the show. They are great to watch since they have such a high energy level.

We took the stage again, this time Jon and I were back in blue denim since our black clothes were not yet dry. We got a great response from the Swiss crowd, and there were many voices singing along with us. After the show, the five of us walked around the outside of the venue to look at some of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles people had ridden to the show. We then went through the main entrance of the venue to watch some of the Priest show. We met some fans for a few minutes before heading back to the dressing room to watch the soccer game. We have several Germans on our crew, so we watched the soccer semi-finals and cheered along with the crew as Germany beat Turkey to advance. Everyone was in good spirits that night.

A couple of our crew guys are Swiss so, while the rest of us were preparing for the show, they walked along way off to find a shop unbeknownst to us. At the end of the night, they surprised us by giving each of us in the band a large box of Swiss chocolate. That was a really nice gift and we’ve been snacking on it ever since. Time to go get some exercise...

Brent Smedley
Hello once again to all of you. I am pleased to bring you the next installment of the Road Rage Reports 2008.

We began by getting together in Indiana for a few days of rehearsal. Then it was off to Europe for a festival tour and 4 shows with Judas Priest. We arrived in Paris, France on Friday July 20th. Here we met up with the crew, the bus and drivers. I thought I would introduce you to the players on this adventure. The Band: Jon Schaffer / Guitar & Vocals, Matt Barlow / Vocals, Brent Smedley (Me) / Drums, Troy Seele / Guitar, and Freddie Vidales / Bass.

Our first show was on Saturday, June 21st. It was a festival in Clisson, France called “Hellfest”. This an outdoor show with multiple stages, a fairground, and the Metal Market. We played one of the main stages. There are 2 stages set side by side, so while one band plays, the other sets up. We played during the day due to a 12 hour drive to the next show in Holland. The show went well and the crowd was immense and intense. It got rather warm up there on stage as the Metal began to flow. Our monitor man (the infamous Simon) arrived mid-show due to a “technical difficulty” on his flight. It caused the plane to be turned around and fixed before he could rendezvous with us at the festival. His presence was immediately felt.

We left around 8 pm to head for The Netherlands, and our first show with Judas Priest. I must say that we are very excited and truly honored to be sharing the stage with such Heavy Metal Icons. This show was like a Heavy Metal matinee which began at 2 pm and ended around 9 pm. There is a European Football Championship (that’s soccer to Americans) and Hollands team is involved in it. The gig was scheduled to end before the game because European Football is very popular and many, many people watch the matches. So our first show with Judas Priest went very well. It was in Zwolle, Holland at a place called Ijsselhallen. Afterwards, I went for a walk to check out some local scenery. Holland is known for Windmills and tulips, however there were none of these in this area. There were some cool waterways and canals with some pretty nice looking boats. I made it back to the venue in time to catch Judas Priest who were in top form. The band sounded great and Rob Halford sounded excellent. They have a very cool stage set-up as well. After the gig we stayed in a hotel in Holland next to a cow field. You could here the cows throughout the night in the hotel.

The next day we headed to Dusseldorf, Germany for our 2nd show with Priest. The venue was called Phillipshalle. This was a rather nice venue and the crowd here was awesome. We gave them a great show and they showed their appreciation and approval. This was definitely my best performance yet and I would say the band’s best performance as well. I dedicated my performance to my mother, Bonnie Smedley, whose birthday it was. She turned 66 on June 23rd. I am so grateful to her for all the years of support and encouragement she gave me as a young aspiring drummer. More over, all the endless hours she spent listening to me practicing as I was growing up. It is because of that that I am able to do what I do now.

I had the pleasure of meeting Doro Pesch tonight, formerly of the band “Warlock” in the 80’s (remember the video for the song “All We Are” on MTV).  She is now with her own band “Doro”. She sang a duet with Rob Halford on “Breaking the Law”. It sounded great. It is nice to see 2 singers with such a rich history, still sounding great. Judas Priest have been around since the 70’s and Doro is celebrating her 25th anniversary on December 13th with a concert at the ISS Dome here in Dusseldorf. She was very gracious and kind.

So now we are on our way to Munich, Germany for a show at a place called “Zenith”. Well that about sums up the first few days of the tour...We are very pleased to be back on the road and bringing the Metal to the masses, during The Summer Slaughter of 2008. Stay tuned for further updates, exciting news, and adventure from the road. The next updates will be from some of the other members in the band to give you some different perspectives.

METAL LIVES

BRENT

well he is a very versatile person. I doubt he will be fired. Leaving on his own may happen depending on his ambitions.

Hell if Troy left and say Dave or James wanted back in Freddie could do the lead guitar..XD.

Don't leave troy...
