This is a thread where you can discuss anything from this record, including tracks, artwork, production, and the line-up. Anything.

Gettysburg is the heart of this album if you ask me and it surely kicks ass more than anyone could imagine. Rippers voice and the epic production, combined with Schaffers genius simply blew me away. It even inspired me to write my final exam in english about the civil war and Gettysburg.
I also like the other songs of corse, but if you ask me: The Glorious burden?  I would surely answer: GETTYSBURG!

Most people would say that. This album dosen't seemed to be loved by most people... lately it's been growing on me.

well, many people do not like it because it has kind of a patriotic touch, many believe it to pe absolutely patriotic and Jon to be a radical nationalist. That is not true, I like it, and I'm not even american, but it wakened my interest in the US history

From all Iced Earth albums, The Glorious Burden is probably my second fav. I really like the historical lyrics (no, I don't think it's too patriotic), the production, Tim's vocals and of course the brilliant Gettysburg trilogy, which is imo the best piece of music Schaffer ever has written.

It's weird, most of the time it dosen't really seem patriotic too me. I don't really notice it. Mabye it's because I'm American? Not sure.

Well I think, thats because it ISN'T really patriotic. I listened to the interview with jon, on the Gettysburg DVD and he explaned the album more as a historical thing. I guess he just wanted to make something historical, and not something patriotic, to him it was important to remind people of the history of their country

I also don´t look upon Glorious Burden as being patriotic. To me it´s a record about history and I´m sure that´s what Jon had in mind too. Of course there are songs about american history on the record, but there are also songs about Napoleon or Attila the Hun for example.

It was a good album. The whole too patriotic thing is a load of bull. seeing as how there are songs concerning Napolean and Attila......which I recall those songs have nothing to do with America.

Hold at All Costs is probably the best song of the trilogy
