3) ‘Minions Of The Watch’
Lyrics by Matt Barlow. Cleaner, Barlow’s voice shines through. Set is oblivious to his destiny.
That song gotta be something
-----------------------------------------
5) ‘A Gift Or A Curse?’
From the introspective, contemplating mind of Set. A slower, ballad type song, includes hand drumming. '70s JOE WALSH/EAGLES vibe. Jon Schaffer singing some lead vocals (!) also harmonizing with Matt. Tom Morris (producer) plays Stratocaster and gets co-writing music credit. Picks up intensity, briefly, come the bridge, but falls to the aforementioned laid-back pace at the end.
“Am I a gift, Am I curse. I’m one and all Of God and Earth”
OMFG... I was just going to post on the forum that we'll need a new Stormrider or Desert Rain with Schaffer on lead!
-----------------------------------------
12) ‘Crucify The King’
CRUNCH! Barlow penned lyrics. Heavy groove bottom end, high vocals in chorus. Interplay of the pummelling bass, staccato guitar riffs and Barlow’s highs.
That sounds good to!

glad to see Shaffer kept that song title.
Not to brag but it was 1 of my recommendations for the name of this forum.

I'm quite pleased to see Barlow writing a heavy amount of tracks.

it is rather nice,
maybe jon's pulled the stick out of his ass or something.
|

well, Barlow was around when Jon was coming up with this story. and Matt has wrote things for IE before.
Ripper was the new guy. Not to mention he joined when everyone who did contribute to writing was gone. bad timing bro.
Back when Barlow joined you had every1 except the drummer writing something.

Well, Jon had said before that he trusted Matthew's lyrical ability and that both of them were real fans of the Something Wicked story...
So, it's not surprising (yet cool) that Matt is writing a lot...

Well something tells me that it isn't Schaffers "way" to let drummers do solos.

Tainted Innocence
|
schaffer needs to learn to expand,
i mean he's a bad ass guy but i think he's letting it get to his head.
|
The Wicked One
|
well it might be that hes never had many drummers past 2 albums, so maybe after some consistency itll happen. and maybe Brent isn't interested in that.
|
Tainted Innocence
|
im sure he is,
t seems he really enjoy's being in iced earth
and also he is good at the style needed for the somehting wicked trilogy

I remember on an interview, Jon said:
"I am really looking forward to having Matt contribute... he's gonna add some freshness (...) people have this misconception that's never been a thing that people can't contribute, I mean, that's ridiculous, that's never been the case, but (like I've said many times before), there's a lot of people out there that think they're songwriters and frankly aren't, and being a songwriter doesn't mean that you just to come up with a guitar riff or write a poem.. the reality is that Iced Earth is established, and there's a reason that the records sell, there's a reason that record companies are willing to sign the band because we have a thing that works and the same thing with the publishing agreement... you don't go, and just because you wanna be nice to somebody, start changing your style because you wanna let them contribute to write songs, I mean, they gotta be good, it's gotta be something that actually works... and... you know, there's always opinions on what's good and, you know, that's cool but this is my band, it's not a publicly owned entity, this is a privately owned small business corporation and I own it"
