Framing Armagedon (Something Wicked, Part 1)

So how do yall feel about the new album
XBurner

I think it's awesome... got a lot of great, kickass material... but there's parts that I'm not sold on.

I really didn't like the idea of it becoming a sci-fi thing. I know it's no comparison, but the original trilogy really struck me as being heavily religious as to how the humans came to earth and massacred the Setians. Not... fuckin' coming down in spaceships with guns blazing, the shit end up buried in the deserts and their memories wiped. I saw it as just... like... humans just kinda appearing via God's will or something.

But that's my only real complaint I guess. That and the guitar work doesn't sound nearly as heavy as it really needs to be.
The Wicked One

well the whole "attack from high above" and "alien to us" should have given u some kind of a hint. From the start he stated it was a science fiction story.

and its actually well done on how religion is made to be a weapon against us.

There is still a mysticism about the story. How the Setians have a power that the humans want but can never have.
XBurner

Right, right... and that's how I took it. I had a vision of humans crawling out from the dirt or out of jungles via forced evolution and doing all the damage.

Not like a bad/all episodes of Stargate SG-1.
The Wicked One

i liked SG-1, especially the original movie. now if u said atlantis id humbly accept it.

For a fact i love SF, especially Baen Books.

David Weber
John Ringo
Eric Flint

Brilliant authors
Guest

It is excellent indeed, but certainly not the best.
paranoidmexican009

i still need to buy the album
Beast Of Metal

^^Same here.
1776

I Like it alot better then SWTWC, HS, S/T and TGB

I rate this up there with TDS, BO AND NOTSR.

Never really got into s/t yet.
Voice of Dissent

my undle was a trekie in school and still is a sci-fi nerd and he watchs all of that stuff (he is living with us rtight now because hes getting over cancer treatment and surgery).

Stargate SG-1 is pretty cool actually.

Better than SWTHC?! And HS?!

Are you high or on drugs that makes you not realize good music?
Voice of Dissent

TGB (including Gettysburg) was better than HS... (in my opinion)
Beast Of Metal

I like HS for the genre of the songs. And Christy's drumming is good as always.
The Wicked One

TGB was good but i can't enjoy it as much as HS.

In the end its like 3 songs and then the trilogy vs HS for me.

Not saying that I don't like TGB, but it was to me the only IE cd where i couldn't fall in love with every song.

Obviously if u saw my thoughts on FA it would reflect my thoughts on all the other IE albums.......100% greatness

you see I'm about the opposite... I liked Dracula, Ghost of Freedom, Phantom of the Opera and a few others but I wasn't really into about half the album (Phantom of the Opera i love for some reason... maybe because I like the story itself)

RED SAUCE ON PASTA!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I gotta ask... who said Framing Armageddon is "okay"
Beast Of Metal

I said it was ok.

Yeah I just hope TDS is at the top of the list....because we all know that was the BEST album Iced Earth ever did.

My personal rating goes as follows for the albums:
TDS
TTTG
SWTWC
AIA
FA
HS
BO
NOTS
S/T
TGB

but they're all amazing, so those who are thinking of yelling at me for TGB being at the bottom, don't, because all of Iced Earth's albums overpower almost any metal band's.
Voice of Dissent

awesome quote dude. I love that one
The Wicked One

for me its
SWTWC
DS
FA
DOP
HS
TttG
BO (lol)
NOTSR
TGB
IE
XBurner

I like them all about equal, so I don't bother abbreviating a list. Razz

I love the new album. It is a great piece in IE history. It is slowly becoming my favorite. I love the depth of the story, the music is awesome, and Tim sounds killer on it.
Guest

all in all, my favorite effort from iced earth had to be horror show. however, my favorite moments from my favorite band were in the original "something wicked this way comes" trilogy. i guess that's why I'm so damn disappointed with framing Armageddon. haven't heard the whole thing yet, but overall i don't think the band is at it's peak these days. it's still good music, but i suppose i hold them to an impossible standard.
The Sexiest Metalhead

I love it actually. At first I didn't think it was good, but after a few listens I thought it was fantastic. Tim sings his balls of and I can say Jon thought long and hard writing this. It feels like he was really into it, and so was I. I wouldn't call it thier best, but it's in the top five at least. Great album.
3DD13

My opinion is that I can't listen the songs of this album one by one. I listen to all the album or I don't listen to. It's like if I read one chapter in the middle of a book. So it's impossible for me to listen only to Setian Massacre or to Framign Armageddon. But I like this album well Smile

I skip often...  Laughing
The Wicked One

bah i don't make mix cds or anything like that. If i want a song from a band and the cd is right in front of me or in my car, i will listen to the entire thing on and on.

Changes from song to song...
Some songs are thrash, heavy, progressive or speed.
And of course power.
The Sexiest Metalhead

Some call them American Power Metal, which is thrash power...

I don't know, I always just called them heavy metal.
The Wicked One

id say thrash/power/classic
