Genre

Just interested to see what people here mainly classify Iced Earth as. I know they have elements from traditional Heavy Metal, Power Metal and Thrash Metal, but what do you mainly think of them as? Personally, I tend to think of Iced Earth as a Power Metal Band.
Kanadwen

Just a plain up mixture for me, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Progressive Metal.
The Sexiest Metalhead

I'd say heavy, or dark power. It's hard to choose really.
NightCrawler

I would say Power Thrash Metal.
Set Abominae

Prog thrash.

When I describe the band's sound to people who've never heard them before, I tend to say,

"Imagine a mixture of Iron Maiden lyrics/vocals, RTL and MOP Metallica/RIP and PSBWB MegaDeth guitar sound."

That tends to get the point across pretty well.
Feaněs

Well I would say  a mixture of trash, power and heavy metal, but I would prefer power metal, I always saw IE as a power metal band...
Aggelos Poneros

Nothing.
I actually hate genres. It's like putting things in boxes.
I also think that it's almost imposible to mark one band as something.
Dante

Power Thrash Metal!

I see what you're thinking I kinda feel the same way, but you do agree that IE falls under the general category of METAL right? Razz I don't think music stores would like it very much if they gave up genres.
paranoidmexican

Thorn

Tainted Innocence

Powerthrash is what I have them down as on my iPod <_<

Yes I made it up.
Shorty

Actually they are American Power Metal, power metal with many thrash influences Wink
Set Abominae

I have them set as "Metal; Power Metal; Progressive Metal; Thrash Metal" in WMP
Tainted Innocence

YES! I can work with that...

But realistically, Iced Earth is one of the bands that are hard to classify. I like the ideas of Powerthrash, etc.....

They certainly are not Power Metal...
They aren't quite thrash...
They are a Heavy Metal band, with a lot of Thrash influence, and the smoothness found in Power Metal, for good measure.
TeaAndCrumpets

As I see it, they combine Power Metal vocals with Thrash music and Heavy Metal lyrics.
Unison

I agree, to an extent. Though, even their Thrashiest songs aren't quite.....Thrash -grunt-

But I do agree..
