horror show (something that hasn't been discused)it's odd,
the other day i found a old guitar magazine with a iced earth interview in it, it was published right after ripper joined...
and jon was talking about how much he didn't like horror show.
he said it "lacked the passion i expect from iced earth"...or something like that...but it still baffles me on how he could say that,
i mean i LOVE the power matt's voice has behind in such songs as damien and wolf...
i mean how could jon not see it?
idk...

Eh, I was expecting something like SWTWC, but Horror Show is still a very good album.

honestly for me,
horror show has a better impact...plus it was also my first Iced Earth album.

I like the horror schow a lot, it is a great and powerfull album with good ideas and nice riffs....
maybe jon was a little bit confused at that time, you know it was the "ripper" thing, jon needed time to find out that matt HAS to be his only joice, so...
I mean, jon IS iced earth, if he said it like that, he probably meant it, but you all know jon had something like a hard time after matt left and he said a few things that changed afterwards. maybe he thought about it at that time, but it doesn't mean that he still things like that! even if, its his right to cause he wrote the songs and so HE knows best, what the songs mean for him and iced earth

Horror Show is my second favorite album by IE [next to NOTS]. This is their first full power metal release [not many thrash influences in their music anymore, in contrast with SWTWC and BO]. That's why I think Jon was unhappy with it.

i never thought about it like that,
but it still has alot of thrash elements to it such as jack and a few others...
i guess he jus had to get used to the idea?

I guess. I could be way off. All I know is that this is their first actual power metal release. You can tell because if you listen to HS and then, let's say SWTWC, there is definitely a difference between music styles. [I think it's because Schaffer switched from BC Rich to Gibson guitars].
So it's all pretty much a hypothesis.

i really liked horror show. though i really liked ALL of IE's releases so i guess i can't give a more insightful opinion.

that's true,
i didn't even think about that...

Horror Show is one of my favorite albums.
The funny thing is, he says that it lacked passion. And we argue that it was thier first power release. I wonder what he'd say now? Because the Something Wicked albums are heavily influenced by power, which arn't as good as Horror Show... to me those lacked "passon..."

i'm guessing jon jus said that becuase the interview was jus after ripper joined the band and he had to really push the new stuff with ripper.

I love that album! It's probably my favorite. I can understand why Jon would say that though. Like you've all already mentioned, it's more Power Metal than anything, it didn't have much Thrash in it. Maybe that's what he didn't like about it.

Tainted Innocence

also i've heard that the record company forced him to make it,
soo he was all pissed off about it.
|
The Wicked One

He was also pissed about the random addition of Set Abominae in the cover without Jon's permission.

Well, "Wolf" is a pure Thrash Metal song. "Jeckyll & Hyde" has also its Thrash parts and the intro of "Jack" is also Thrash.
Actually is "Horror Show" an Power Thrash Metal album. "The Glorious Burden" had more Power Metal in it, than all the previous albums together (it's just my opinion)

anyway I have to say its probably my favourite album.about jon saying what he did.i also think its because of ripper joining and the record company.he is known for his disagreements with century media.whatever wolf has the best riff ever

I can never come up with a reason to hate Horror Show... the album is amazing. It's my favorite Iced Earth record. Mabye something happened during the recording or tour we don't know about.

I'm too lazy to find any interviews as backup, but Jon has stated over the past year or so that he felt Horror Show was forced. By choosing to write songs about monsters and movies, he painted himself into a corner and wasn't able to freely write what he wanted.
He then did so by writing and releasing The Glorious Burden.

Yeah? I didn't know that. Although I would have thought that Jon would want to do an album based on those characters. You've just got to look at the Purgatory demos, one was entitled Horror Show, and a few tracks have the same name as tracks from the 2001 Horror Show. I mean, I know they're not the same tracks but they have the same principal I'm sure. That's just what I would have thought though, you're most probably right if you heard it in an interview.
