Iced Earth have launched a newly designed website featuring artwork showcased in the band’s forthcoming CD, “The Crucible of Man (Something Wicked Part II)” to be released worldwide this week via Steamhammer/SPV on the following dates:
Germany, Austria, Switzerland: September 5th
United Kingdom and Europe: September 8th
USA and Canada: September 9th
“The Crucible of Man” continues the band’s legacy of delivering their music complete with extravagantly illustrated packaging. No less than 16 full-color illustrations were created for “The Crucible of Man” to give listeners a glimpse into the mind of mainman Jon Schaffer as they follow along to the telling of his “Something Wicked” saga.
The newly designed website will also feature a professionally operated fanclub that fans can join and use to purchase officially licensed Iced Earth merchandise directly from the source, as well as partake in the only officially authorized Iced Earth forum, chat, blog, and contests with other “Minions of the Wicked.” Says Schaffer, “We are in store for a very exciting time in Iced Earth history, and I'm extremely proud of what's been accomplished thus far. Many of you have been with us since day one, and many have come along through the years. Regardless of how long you've been a fan of the music, we are honored to have you part of the ever-growing Legion of metal's most dedicated fan base. Rise up Minions of the Wicked!”

Figures. I new it would cost money. I used to lurk at the Iron Maiden forums, and then the started charging. I hate being broke, but if there's one Fan Club I'd join, it would be Iced Earth... Some day.

It's only $20 to join and every year you get a new tshirt with renewal. That's pretty cool. I joined the COF fan club last year (it's run by the same folks it looks like) and I got an awesome tshirt and guitar pic. Plus the fan club forum kicks ass (Well the folks on it do anyway). I will join soon, gotta pay bills first.

Well in a sense they are charging for the forum but you don't just get access to the forum with purchase you get exclusive shit too. News, tshirts, contests to win all kinds of shit that you can't enter unless you are in the fanclub. Just like the COF fan club (it is the same folks running it). Just recently they gave us a preview of the entire song "Tragic Kingdom" from their upcoming album. It was a stream of the song but you couldn't hear it anywhere else at the time. Then Roadrunner Records the next put it available for free download the next day for only 24 hours. Than about a week later the COF myspace had the song to stream. So we got a new song first being in the fan club.
It's the same with the IE fan club since the same folks run it or company or whatever it is. But like some of the others here, I will indeed join cause they are one of my favorite bands ever, but I won't stop being active here. I mean COF has a free official forum they have had for years that is still active and I am still a member of, though I post more on the "pay" forum. So they have two forums one free for folks who are poor, lol! And one as part of the fan club package. Maybe IE will do that soon, but doubtful. Maybe if we beg enough they will make this one the official free forum!

Sure the shirts alright looking, but if I wanted one of the bands shirts, well, I'd just order one from another site. They look quite a bit better than the one I've seen for becoming a "member".
But the forum should be free to anyone, regardless. It should have been it's own entity in my opinion.

The reason they charge is because of the opportunities to win certain things and to have a direct link to the band through the chat and forums. Right now the forum is having a few difficulties but I'm sure they'll be fixed soon.

The forum over there is a mess right now, al lot of weird bugs, people logged in can't see forums, and the forum is not that pretty either, hope they will fix it all asap, at the moment it does not look very proffesional to me, but a bunch of people hosting a couple of band forums and some simple web pages beside it, hopefully they will improve.

Yes, i'm planning to join, since I want that t-shirt, only problem is that I don't have a credit card but I will try to fix that problem someway. But I like this forum and I will for sure continue post on this forum as long as it's alive!
