Iron Maiden

Wanna talk Maiden? Here's the place to do it. Number of the Beast is my favorite album from them... and my favorite song is The Trooper. Eventhough it's not on that album, it's still my favorite song. Laughing

I own just about every album (The X Factor and Virtual XI are the last two for me...) and I like all of them in different ways.

Bruce... what can you say... one of the greatest singers of all time.

Discuss them here.
Shorty

Imo the best metal band in the whole world, with the best singer in the whole world

Tainted Innocence

I have all but one. I just listened to Virtual XI today actually...  Laughing

I love that song. My favorite is The Clansman...

Good album. Suprised me a bit.

it's from Somewhere In Time ... A great album (I think it's the best with Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and Powerslave) ...
Shorty

Eddie is an 80s freak Mr. Green (just jockin')

Somewhere In Time is a hell of an album and IMO (!) every metalhead , even if he/she (it Laughing ) dislike Maiden they need it in their personal  discography.
To be honest every Maiden album is perfect, even Fear Of The Dark with this crappy Apparition.
3DD13

Murf ... I don't agree with you :
- IRON MAIDEN is too punk, but there's some excellent songs (Phantom Of The Opera, Iron Maiden, Strange World, Transylvania ...)
- KILLERS is very, very, very heavy compared to the first album, but there's some bullshit and some great songs (Killers, Another Life, ...)
- THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST is, for me, the most Iron Maiden album of Iron Maiden. There's just one mistake : Gangland, what the hell is that crappy things ? The best songs are Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number Of The Beast, Children Of The Damned ...
- the PIECE OF MIND ALBUM is more progressive and I like it very well. Still Life and To Tame A Land are great, but my all times favourite Iron Maiden's song is Revelations ...
- POWERSLAVE is the best Iron Maiden album. All songs are magical and rad ... The best are Losfer Words, Powerslave, Aces High, Flash Of The Blade, The Rime Of The Ancient Marinner, Back In The Village, The Duellists and 2 Minutes To Midnight : every song Very Happy
- SOMEWHERE IN TIME is not far from POWERSLAVE but there is an UFO in that ... What's this Déjŕ-vu ??? The best are Caught Somewhere In Time, (only the intro of) The Loneliness Of A Long Distance Runner (this is the best intro I ever heard), ...
- 7TH SON OF A 7TH SON. That was my favourite album, but I listen to it too many times... It hurts my hear now ^^ the favourite are Infinite Dreams, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and The Prophecy
- the decline beginns with NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING. My favourites are Hooks In You, Tailgunner, Public Enema Number One, Mother Russia
- I think FEAR OF THE DARK is the worst album. The songs are empty (in studio, cause in live it sounds good), some of them are useless. The great songs are Fear Of The Dark, Affraid To Shoot Strangers, Weekend Warrior.
- THE X FACTOR, Blaze Bayley ... Some people dislike that stuff : I don't dislike it but the songs have exactly the same beginning, it's not full of energy.
- VIRTUAL XI : arffhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... I think that only Lighting Strike Twice and Como Estais Amigos are good.
- BRAVE NEW WORLD : very very very good album. I like every song (but not The Mercenary)
- DANCE OF DEATH has an awfull cover, and I like not all the songs. I just like Gates Of Tomorrow, Dance Of Death and The Journeyman.
- A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH is better than DANCE OF DEATH, but it's not good .. I like all the song a bit, but not too much.. My favourite is For The Greater Good Of God

PS : what does IMO means ?
Tainted Innocence

in my opinion
Sentinel

Iron Maiden is my favourite band along with Iced Earth. And i've been listening to Iron Maiden for 8 years now. I've seen them live 5 times (2 times 2005, 1 time 2006 and 2 times 2008), and they never fail to deliver.
Maiden is really a band i can listen to for weeks and never grow tired. Can't wait for their new album which I hope will be out in 2009!

I think I can give you my opinion about all the albums (as 3DD13 did)

Iron Maiden - Great debut with some of Maiden's best songs (Phantom of the Opera, Strange World). I also love the raw mixing.
Killers - Slightly weaker than the debut but overall in the same veins. My favourites from this one is Another Life, Purgatory, Genghis Khan and Innocent Exile.
The Number of the Beast - With the new singer Bruce Dickinson and songs like Children of the Damned, Total Eclpise and Hallowed be thy Name this is nothing less than amazing, still I prefer the debut to this one.
Piece of Mind - This would be a great album if it weren't for the awful mixing, it sounds so flat. Too bad since many of the songs here are great (especially Where Eagles Dare and Still Life), so this is probably the Maiden album I listen least to.
Powerslave - The only weak spot on this one is Flash of the Blade, but as for the rest this is a awesome record.
Somewhere in Time - In my top-3 favourite Maiden records. Not a single weak spot and the mixing is beyond awesome. Even if many think synth dosn't fit Maiden, I think it added a very cool feeling to this album.
Seventh son of a Seventh Son - Almost as good as Somewhere in Time. This one would for sure end up in my top-5 Maiden records. The only song I skip if I listen to this one is "Can I Play with Madness", as for the rest, they are all classics.
No Prayer for the Dying - Most people sees this one as Maiden's worst, but I love this one, since this is somewhat a return to the early raw Iron Maiden. My favourite from this one is Fates Warning, The Assassin, Run Silent Run Deep and No Prayer for the Dying.
Fear of the Dark - Same problem as with Piece of Mind, the mixing here is awful and makes the album sound boring. Still some diamonds can be found here, like Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Childhood's End,  The Fugitive and Judas Be My Guide.
X-Factor - My favourite Maiden album. The dark atmosphere and Blaze dark vocals make this one to their coolest and heaviest album so far. Only awesome songs on this one.
Virtual XI - Very good album but some of the songs could be cut down by a couple of minutes. Favourites are The Clansman, The Educated Fool and Como Estais Amigos.
Brave New World - Very good album, with no bad song. Favourite songs: The Mercenary, Dream of Mirrors and The Nomad.
Dance of Death - As with Piece of Mind and Fear of the Dark this one also has a bad mixing, this one doesn't sound flat or boring but the guitars sounds like shit. But overall a decent album, though songs like Rainmaker and No More lies takes down the album a bit. My favourites are Age of Innocence, Paschendale and Face in the Sand.
A Matter of life and Death - This one went straight to my top-3 Maiden albums. This is perfection straight through. If I would have to choose a couple of favourites I'd choose The Longest Day, Lord of Light and The Legacy.
Shorty

Well, I am sure I have the strangest opinion of all of you guys:
IRON MAIDEN: Great debut with some good stuff on it like Prowler, Phantom Of The Opera, Transylvania and Strange World. Running Free is written to be played live and Sanctuary (on the re-masters) is also a live song. Charlotte The Harlot has some good parts, as the calm part, but also some which bore me. Iron Maiden is not THE song but it's (the backdrop) Eddies song, with a cool bass/drum break. Remember Tomorrow is imo (=in my opinion) a little psycho, but good and slow song.

Killers: A heavier album than the debut, but not every song is good. The Ides Of March/Wrathchild is almost perfect and Paul's voice is really great on this one. Genghis Khan is the best maiden instrumental, Purgatory and Killers are also perfect songs. Innocent Exile, Another Life and Drifter are good songs, but not really the best.Twilight Zone (on the re-masters) is a very very good and interesting song. Murders In The Rue Morgue has a very good intro, BUT the rest sucks. Prodigal Son sucks also.

The Number Of The Beast: Invaders is the weakest song of the (original) album, on the re-masters is the weakest Total Eclipse, which sucks badly. The Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills are very good songs, but I have heard them thousand times and now they only bore me. The Prisoner,22 Acacia Avenue and Children Of The Damned are badass tracks and Gangland is also a very good song. Hallowed Be Thy Name is the best on the whole album.

Piece Of Mind: Where Eagles Dare is a good song but nothing special, even if it's the hell to play it on drums (thank god I'm a guitarist Laughing ) Revelations, Flight Of Icarus, Die With Your Boots On, The Trooper, Still Life, and Quest for life are badass tracks. Sun And Steel is a good song, even if it's to "positive" compered to the "dark" mood of the album. Dune better known as To Tame A Land is a good epic, but there is this lick on the lead guitar which sucks badly.

The other albums will follow because I don't have time to finish it now. Cool

Well my favourite album is "SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON"
that album truly rules, and.......when I heard it, I somehow was reminded of the "Something Wicked" Saga...

MY favourite song is spurise suprise: Seventh son of a seventh son!!!

the prophecy kicks ass too, somehow the name reminds me of a iced earth song, just don't know the name of it.... Wink
Sentinel

The Prophecy and Seventh son of a Seveth son is for sure among the best on the album! I hope they will play atleast SSoaSS live someday!
Feaněs

I would be happy if I just get the chance toSEE them life, well if they play some good stuff, even better!!!!

I hope you will see them live one day, Iron Maiden live is something you just have to see!

I'll admit that, how could they be bad at a live performance, they are MAIDEN.....

...and they've got Bruce.....

They've got too Nicko,  Janick, Adrian, Dave and surely the most important Steve ... I've seen them three times : one time in 2006 and two times this year .. It's just the best band I ever listen, I ever seen...
Sentinel

Yes, the whole band is into the show 100%. I like especially Dave and Nicko.

The show in 2006 was for sure the best of the five i've seen. A Matter of Life and Death in it's entirety = Win!
3DD13

there's two or three treasures on this album (for the greater good of god, the piglrim, the fucking passage in Benjamin Breeg, before the solo, out of the shadow) but I don't like the rest. In live, I the only song I liked 100% was Different World : I used to hate this, but in live this night, it was like if all the energy of the maidenfan was spent for this song. It's like Aces High on the tour of this year...

I thought all songs from AMOLAD worked out awesome live. The Only problem was that there were so many people there who just want to hear Wrathchild, Run to the Hills etc. So they were just standing there are shouted between the songs "PLAY FEAR OF THE DARK" or "PLAY RUN TO THE HILLS". Well, I had atleast the time of my life on that show. Lord of Light and The Longest Day was among the best live moments i've experienced. And yes, Diffrent World was awesome too, possible one of the coolest songs to open a show with.

And this year, atleast the Helsinki sohw, the crowd was in awesome shape the whole show! But the Tampere show had on the other hand a very lame crowd.
And the stage show was phenomenal. Rime of the Ancient Mariner was beyond awesome!
Aggelos Poneros

I don't like Iron Maiden.
O.o
Actually there are few songs I like and that's it.
Dickinsons voice annoyes me sometimes.

I had the same problem in Milano : I sang all the song 'till I had no more voice, but some people weren't participating ... I thought in my head, why do they buy some tickets ?

I totally agree with you about The Longest Day, but I don't like Lord Of Ligth. Like I said before, my favourites songs on this show were Different World, These Colours Don't Run, The Longest Days, Out Of The Shadows and the other stuff ... I don't talk 'bout this ...

I totally agree with you Very Happy This tour was amazing, because of the set-list, because of the band's energy, because of all the fireworks Very Happy The air was hot while The Number Of The Beast Very Happy A great great great gig.

And for all, what's your favourite album ?

I was really surprised over all their pyros, Maiden has never been a band which has blown out alot of pyros but it was awesome too see that they have brought it into their sets! Very Happy

My favourite Maiden album is X-Factor followed by Somewhere in Time and A Matter of Life and Death.
X-Factor is really IMO the ultimate Maiden album, it contains everything from catchy guitar melodies to cool drum work and awesome lyrics! Can't get enough of that album!
Shorty

Cool someone who loves a blaze album Very Happy
My fav maiden albums are Virtual XI, followed by Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and A Matter Of Life And Death/No Prayer For The Dying
Sentinel

Ofcourse Wink Blaze is a awesome singer, both in Iron Maiden and in his solo band!

Nice to see another one who likes No Prayer For The Dying! Most people don't like it all, can't understand why, it's a damn fine album!
