They were a great band, but nowadays they are quite average. Their early material is awesome, Sign of the Hammer and Hail to England is damn fine albums.
But their 4 last albums have all been quite average, a few awesome songs mixed with a bunch of very boring and uninspired songs.
But I would love to see them live, all their live dvd's are great so i'm pretty sure they would be awesome live!

I see what you mean. Louder than Hell is my favorite album, but what the hell is the song "Courage" doing on there?!

don't like them much, sorry!!!

NightCrawler

One of my favorite bands. Kings of Metal is their best album imo.

The Wicked One

This band confirmed you could be so cheezy yet still kick so much ass!

Yeah, cheesy is the right word to describe Manowar...
Sorry, but I never understood why there are so much people who love this band. They never really appealed to me and I think they never will.
Not to mention that I think Joey DeMaio is one of the most self-opinionated people in metal.

Yhe kings of cheeseyness. They have some good songs, but a hit and miss band overall.

Tainted Innocence

Courage is a great example. Another example is Warriors Prayer and Pleasure Slave from Kings of Metal. How can they mix those songs with masterpieces as Blood of the Kings and Heart of Steel? It ruins the flow of the album. And on those latest albums there has been more and more of those songs.

Pleasures Slave imo is a useless song ... But Warriors Prayer is good if you listen to the whole album ... It's exactly the same thing with the last album, Gods Of War ... You must listen all the album to appreciate it ...

I thought Gods of War was pretty bad. "King of Kings" and "Die for Metal" are good songs though.

I also thought Gods of War was quite bad, still "Sleipnir" and "Sons of Odin" was great tracks.

IMHO, Sign of the Hammer is their best album . Best songs: Mountains, Battle Hymn, Call to Arms, Gods Made Heavy Metal etc.
Am I the only one that likes Pleasure Slave?
|
NightCrawler
|
No, you aren't, I also like that one.
Of course they have much better songs, but I think that Pleasure Slave is not that bad as many claim it to be.
(but hell, that shouldn't mean anything, because I know I have a shit taste, as I also like The Warrior's Prayer )

It's funny, cuz they have a song called Sons of Odin on their first album Battle Hymns as well....anyone else find that just a little bit strange?

NightCrawler

That different songs have the same title? That's not strange. Especially if you are a true metal band. There, songtitles are a difficult thing, when you're only allowed to use the words king, power, steel, sword, odin, warriors and fight

Haha
I saw them in France/Hellfest this year. Yes they are great live! They tend to mess around a bit on stage though. At this particular show they didn't play a song for like 20 mins, however Joey DeMaio did get some guy up on stage from the crowd, which was pretty funny

the bass player of my band was there too (a little fat guy with a Swiss horned hat and Swiss flags). He explains me that this guy could keep the guitar :O

Haha I didn't see him. Yeah man, Joey DeMaio got him up on stage, gave him a manowar t-shirt and a guitar, said he could keep it and let him do a guitar solo! He was also allowed to stay on the stage with his guitar while they played a song, however they switched his guitar off of course, so he mimed the notes
