Matt Barlow officially retires

http://www.bravewords.com/news/157267

This is some really heavy shit.

Not to sound like someone who worshiped Barlow but he was a very important part of IE's history. There were times that I feel that I would find that my life would be complete if I could sing like him.

When you read the article you are brought back to reality. And to a realization that someone you practically idolize truly knows how to live.

What happens to Iced Earth is up in the air. Jon wants to keep going so I can only hope that he finds a vocalist worthy of doing the new stuff as well as every era before.

If Matt stalks this page, I hope he realizes that we understand and I enjoyed the 2 times that I saw IE live with him at the helm.

You are not only an inspiration in music, but in life.

Rock on when you can.

I was utterly depressed as a fan when I learned that he's retiring from IE.
Seeing his reason though, I'm happy for his decision and I think it is a very good reason.
But still, I never had the chance to see him perform, and I've often dreamt of it.
I will satisfy this need by getting Festivals of the Wicked when it's released, lol.
On the other hand, though, I hope Schaffer will find a new, unique vocalist. One that IE hasn't seen before. Of course, no one can replace Barlow (who is by far one of my favorite vocalists), but, IE can still continue.

Dito! Evil or Very Mad

Well hopefully his replacement Stu Block will kill on the next album!

I hope so, but actually I listened to a few songs from his other band into eternity and his voice is ass kicking. the songs and riffs itself are not that good, but his vocal range is impressing, he will do a good job.

Hmm I think that Timeless Winter is not very representative for his singing skills (although I love it), mainly because I think Jon won't let him growl that much... I think this is how it COULD be:

I would really recommend you to listen to "The Scattering Of Ashes" or "The Incurable Tragedy" (the two albums with Stu on vocals) there are some really good songs on there ^^

And here another one which pretty covers his range :

I think (and hope) that he's vocals will get a little fuller on the IE album. he's voice is a bit flat on the first one, he'll do better on the IE record I guess.

second one is just awsome, didn't knew that before, covers his range a lot better than timeless winter, your right. and damn, he has a lot of range to cover o.O
