Matt Barlow vs. Tim OwensWho do you think is better? I love Barlow, but I don't think Ripper is a pushover. What do you think?

I get really tired of Barlow VS Owens threads, but since you're all cool I'll allow it. But if I feel it's getting out of hand I won't hesistate to lock it.

Its definately close, the only thing that tips it is that ive seen Owens live and he was fantastic, he got me into the band, Barlow is a fantastic singer but I havnt seen him live, Im changing that this year though!!

Yep both of them are incredible singers, probably the best in Metal?
But i think that Matt has a little wider range than Ripper so i think that Matt is the best for Iced Earth. But Ripper is better then Halford in Judas Priest.

as a veteran i know all too well how out of hand it can get.

barlow was meant for IE plain and simple.
he has the dark/opreatic? (i cant spell.) quality's that IE demands.

Matt Barlow is perfect for Iced Earth. Tim was really great too

BARLOW better in Iced Earth, Pyramaze and any band that he could sing for (by far).
OWENS better in Judas than Halford, as singer he's better than Halford...as frontman, Owens SUCKS HARDLY compared with anyone there xD.

Too bad both judas Piest albums Owens were on were quite bad just because of the material he was working with...

I actually like Jugulator and Demolition the most out of the Priest albums.
with priest. i like a couple songs on an album and then the rest are just there.
the only album where i like more than 50% of an album were the Ripper era, Screaming For Vengence, and Painkiller

I've allready voted Barlow. His voice is WON-DER-FUL ! The tears are just behind my eyes when I listen to A Question Of Heaven. Owens is not bad, but I prefer him in Judaspriest

listen to both versions of the clouding . Barlows voice has more emotion , therefore he was meant for IE.
Owens has a higher pitch that just doesn't seem right for IE. I don't hear the emotion in the rippers voice that can be heard in Matt's.
I would really like to hear Barlow sing "When The Eagle Cries."

Tims version of The Clouding is 1000[...]0000 times better than Matts. I love Matts voice, but Tims voice fit better to The Clouding

I was actually thinking quite the opposite.
Don't get me wrong I like Tim's voice but Matt's fits IE better. The clouding is one of my favorites from Framing Armageddon. I think Matt's version made it even better.
Just my opinion though.

I feel Matt has a superior range , and stage presence [sp.?] making him a better fit for the band. Matt can sing it all.
Owens is a good singer , he tends to focus on his upper register far to much though.

The only song Ripper is superior on is The Reckoning. IMHO. That Halford-esque wailing is his forte. But Barlow and IE's music are made for each other. Carry on!

I think Tim is an excellent singer, but I'd have to choose Matt over him any day of the week!
Matt Barlow is easily the best metal singer I've ever heard!

To me, Barlow is definitely better, but Timporary Owens isn't bad either. He just lacks the low range in his singing, and emotion needed in alot of Iced Earth's songs. Both their voices are different though, and both have one up on each other. Barlow has more range with his low register, and Ripper can shriek higher.... Not that Barlow really shrieks.

Tim definitely is a good singer but his style cannot be compared with Matt's and Tim lacks almost everything the songs of the Matt Barlow era demand from a vocalist...
So... of course I prefer Matt.
He is the best.
