Saw Malmsteen and Ripper concert last night.......
Great show, however Malmsteen looked like he was stuck in an 80's time warp, Ripper was as great as ever on vocals. I got to tell you guys after hearing Ripper Owens perform live last night and hearing Barlow vocals at the Orlando show, I really think Jon made a mistake not keeping Ripper, don't get me wrong I like Barlow also, but Ripper just seems to be flawless, that's just my take. Oh yeah During one of the warm up bands I was wearing my Iced Earth T-Shirt and looked to my left and Ripper was next to me , he noticed my shirt and gave me the thumbs up so I went over to him and talk with him for aliittle bit, he's real down to earth cool dude, I thanked him for his great work in Iced Earth and wished him the best for the future.

i have to see barlow first, to say something about their live performance, all i know is, ripper is a damn good singer and entertainer, and he's got my respect and blessings...

Truth be told I like all IE singers (though it has taken several years and listens for me to finally appreciate Gene Adam, still my least favorite vocalist but if you read some of my past reviews, you know I really didn't like his vocals all that much. He's grown on me now).

Ripper is a great singer.
I have to point out though that with Yngwie does so many interludes that ripper can recover from his strenuous singing style.
Both Barlow and Ripper have a style that demands 110% of their work.
Given Iced Earth has so many vocal oriented tunes that it takes its toll on the singers.
This to me is partially why I think Jon wanted Stormrider to be strictly sung by him seeing as how the original version is more like 15% Jon, 85% Gene. It not only gave an epic consistency but gave the singer a break.
