Century Media sucks, fuck all those cuntries and release it in America after all IE are an American band!!
Anyways looks like alot of rare stuff as well as the Dark Genesis box set will be included.
Amazon.com has it as an import for $206.99, hope I can get it before it sells out don't know how long it will take to save up that much money. Here is a couple of pics of the set ...
I like the way the cds look like lps, that's cool!

Looks cool. But there's nothing new, so even as a collector, i probably won't buy it. It's very expensive also. And i already have all the cd's, singles/ep's and dvd's that IE has released. I might get myself one of those re-re-relase cd's, just because of the cool package, they look like LP's

The only reason for me to buy is the bonus tracks on Dark Saga and the Burnt Offerings Alt Mix, oh and the "live" Stormrider bonus song on Stormrider as I don't have those. Plus I do like the LP cd's!
I also noticed they forgot a bonus song. From the re release of the Meloncholy EP, Colors Live from the Athens Sessions that didn't make it on the Athens cds. Fortunatly I have that so no biggie. Just wondering why they left it out, they put the other bonus tracks from the ep (Shooting Star, The Ripper, Electric Funeral). Oh well.

Well as you know they are going to release each cd individually (like they eventually did with the Dark Genesis discs) with bonus tracks and all. I just hope that they are still Lp style, other wise I may have to spend 200 bucks just for a few bonus tracks I don't have and cool artwork/cd designs. I guess I will wait and see.

According to Amazon.com, the Box Set will be $206.99. And the individual cds will be as follows..
Iced Earth $32.99
Night Of The Stormrider (with bonus live song) $32.99
Burnt Offerings (2 Disc set with original and alt mix) $38.49
Enter The Realm Of The Gods (2 disc set with demo and tribute) $38.49
Days Of Purgatory (2 disc set) $46.49
The Dark Saga (with bonus Hellspawn tracks) $32.99
Something Wicked This Way Comes (with bonus tracks) $38.49
Horror Show (with bonus track) $35.99
They didn't have a listing for the import version of Alive In Athens but they still had the 3 disc box set that has been available listed. These (except for Alive) are all imports. They are not re releasing the dvd apparently, as it seems to still be available everywhere. Total for the single purchases (without Alive or DVD) is $296.92, a whole $90 more and you get jipped 3 cds and one dvd. I just hope I can save enough to get the box set before it sells out otherwise I will miss out or have to pay an extra $90!
EDIT: Although not listed on Amazon, CDUniverse has Alive In Athens listed at $52! And the box set at $210.

I wonder if Stormrider Live, the bonus track on Night of the Stormrider is the same recording as the Japanese bonus Stormrider Live on Something Wicked This Way comes? Cause if it is I already have it. Still would like a physical copy of the set for my own collection but I am broke now, got a $710 fine to pay in May, so that's fucked. Oh well I will get this set one day, but I will be happy with mp3's of the bonuses and alt mixes til then.

Well just found the Slave To The Dark box set for download, though it's not the complete set (missing Horror Show, Alive, Purgatory, Realm Of Gods and Iced Earth) it has the ones I wanted. Mainly the Dark Saga Hellspawn songs.
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Hellspawn songs are just remixes of the song Dark Saga, nothing more. Very little difference, but you can here differences in them. Still need to get the real thing eventually for my collection. Plus it wasn't all 320kbps, like I prefer. But it's cool. And to answer my earlier question, yes the Stormrider live track is the same as the Jap bonus on Wicked. Hadn't got to listen to the Burnt Offerings Alt mix yet going to do that now.

I put the two Hellspawn mixes in my Imeem profile. Here are the links to listen to them (streaming, you can't download from Imeem I don't think) Since it's not downloadable I don't think it's illegal. I could be wrong.

I still want to get the real discs, but my money situation is saying no! Would like a 320 kbps version of all 14 discs (don't need another of copy of the dvd as there is nothing different really) if they are remastered otherwise I would just like a 320kbps of the ones with the bonus tracks. Stormrider, Dark Saga, Something Wicked, Alive In Athens, and the alt mix of Burnt Offerings. Since the ones I downloaded only a few songs are actually 320 the bonus ones aren't. But at least they aint 192 or under. Yea I'm picky like that. So Dante when you get your copies, I'd appreciate (take your time doing this if you still want to do it) the bonus tracks at least (don't have to have the cd's in full if they are not remastered), and in 320kbps. Pm or email would be cool.
Stormrider Live (don't need already have from the Jap Wicked)
Hellspawn Mix 1 (need 320kbps)
Hellspawn Mix 2 (need 320 kbps)
Colors (Live In Athens Disc 2 Bonus)(Don't need already got from Meloncholy Ep)
Burnt Offerings Alt Mix (whole album)(Need 320 kbps)
Transylvania (Horror Show Bonus)(Don't need already got)
Thanks again.

so far from mix 1 it has a an echoing note in the background and there was no palmmuting in the beginning guitar chugging in the beginning.
mix 2 sounds alot like the Dark Saga's mix, right now i can't tell the difference unless the drumming feels more prominent in this one. I might just be overthinking though

I would still like to have this set, not just for the "lame" bonus tracks, which other than the hellspawns that I downloaded, I already have anyway, I mainly want it for two reasons. 1) My Iced Earth Collection. Other than ultra rare stuff that I have no hope of getting. Like the Digi Pak original release of Dark Saga, which was a comic shop exclusive. I don't remember what difference if any it had to the other digi pak with the same bonus song (The Ripper cover song), I just remember it was advertised in Previews Comic Catalog as a Comic Shop exclusive, and had some other stuff I don't remember. 2) The awesome looking cd's. They look like lp's. Otherwise I have all the songs already and lack about 5 physical cd's to have them all (not counting Slave Box Set), and that is counting the first reissues.
Here is my collection and what I need (doubtful that anyone cares but what the hell I am bored), I have everything ever recorded by IE since I got a hold of the Hellspawn mixes, but not their early demos or Purgatory stuff other than a few mp3's that were downloaded, in my computer via actual cd rips from my cd's and downloads.
Iced Earth (original recording)
Night Of The Stormrider (Original Recording)
Burnt Offerings (original recording)
Dark Saga (use to have now only have a rip, so I need the cd for my collection)
Days Of Purgatory (2 disc digi, fucked by water, but cd's still play, would like to get this again for my collection but it is too rare.)
Days Of Purgatory Single Disc Digi
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Dark Genesis Box Set
Iced Earth (Dark Genesis Reissue, jewel case)
(The other DG reissues I still need, even though I have them in the box set, I am one of those anal collectors and want the loan jewel versions of those discs as well. And the digi version of Tribute by itself)
The Glorious Burden (2 disc digi)
Alive In Athens (use to have now only rips)
Blessed And Damned (need)
Reckoning (promo ep, won on ebay, dude hasn't got my money order yet, hopefully soon)
The Meloncholy EP (only a rip need real thing)
Horror Show (2 disc, use to have now only a rip)
Overture Of The Wicked
Framing Armageddon (Jewel case version with bonus track)
Framing Armageddon (Need the normal version which is the digi version)
And of course need the Slave box set and it's loan reissues.
Don't know if I forgot anything but oh well, if you read this far you must be a hell of a lot more bored than I am.

It's nothing special, just The Birth of The Wicked from the Overture EP, listed as track 20. Also if you look next to the upc code, this version (the jewel case version) was made in Mexico. Never seen anything other than Mexican stuff made in Mexico. Most albums I see are either US or Japan or Germany or some place. Oh well.

Makes me wonder if mine is an actual product and not a very very well done bootleg. I think it's the real thing, an import, but still the real thing. Also that is true. Usually digi's are the harder ones to find and have the bonuses.

An obvious bootleg. First of all, they said that song would be on Pt2, and secondly, the bonus track is in a different font, and the wrong colour, without shadow.
If it's an official release it's a drab one, but i wouldn't be surprised considering it's from Mexico.
Anyway, I love this set, even if they are the remasters, they would still look fantastic in my collection as the box set. Saves buying all those EPs and special editions for the extraneous bonus tracks.

The version of Framing Armageddon which I bought from the Manchester concert is the digipack and made in Hannover, Germany. Also it doesnt have the Licensed to Scarhorow label that the one in your pic has. Another difference is that SPV is on the spine on mine but not yours. Very good pic by the way. Thanks for letting us all see how different it is to the digipack version.

I guess it is a fake, very good fake but fake none the less. Another example of fakery is the booklet. There is no mention of the bonus track at all, not even writer or music credits, nothing whatsoever. Most albums with bonus tracks at least give credits to the song, not necessarily lyrics but credits at least. Also the cd looks professionally or factory manufactured. It does not have a printed from printer label stuck on it, it actually looks authentic. Of course I don't have the actual digi to compare to.
|
Man's Coming Curse
|
The digipacks disc doesnt have any writing round the edge, it simply has a logo of steamhammer and underneath that is white writing saying:
P 2007 Steamhammer, a division of SPV GmbH
C 2007 Iced Earth. Made in Germany
SPV 98182 CD
The P and C are in little circles, this writing and logo are on the left hand side of the CD dead in the centre of the left half if you cut it in 2.
Sorry about not being able to put a picture up, I dont have a charged up camera at the moment.

Back to Slave To The Dark (sorry for getting off topic). I just won it on ebay for $135!! New and Sealed!! I think that was a hell of a deal (that price includes shipping which was only $6 anywho) considering most places will be over $200 and most folks on ebay have it at at least $150 before shipping. Anyway, it will probably be sometime next week before they even send it out as this is the 4th of July weekend.

Welp, got the box set today, it is one hell of an awesome package!! I don't care that IE doesn't endorse it, it just fucking rules! And yes to those who don't have it or haven't heard, Iced Earth, Night Of The Stormrider and Burnt Offerings are all the remastered versions, so no spoken word part in Before The Vision. Still one hell of an awesome set. That is my only gripe, if they are going to release what they consider to be everything they released by IE, than the original unremastered versions should have been included. It would have only been three more discs, but what can you do. I already have the originals, and Dark Genesis and now this set. Don't know if IE gets money from these sales (well they wouldn't from me as I bought it on Ebay, but the guy I won it from had to have bought it himself, giving IE their money if they do get any from this box set. I would have bought it from an actual place like Amazon but they wanted like 285 bucks or something for it, so I saved a shitload of money), but still I am loving it especially the lp style discs. The multi discs have Side A and Side B, ha, that is awesome!
PS: Does any one who doesn't have these or seen good close ups of the discs wants me to scan them? I will if you want so you can see their awesomeness!

Do you have the 2 disc Burnt Offerings? Cause that is what comes with the box set. All 14 discs (not the dvd, though it's been available on it's own for a while, there is even a topic about the dvd in this forum somewhere) are available as their own for folks who don't want to buy the box set and want just certain albums. They all (except for the dvd) are mini lp type cd's. So that may be the one you got.

I wonder why, since the first three albums are indeed the remaster ones from 2001 (the Dark Genesis box set, and eventually as their own releases), they chose to use the covers they did. The original German/Japanese cover of Iced Earth, the original US cover of Night Of The Stormrider and the original cover for Burnt Offerings rather than using the remaster covers? No big deal really, just curious, also curious as to why the ORIGINAL recordings of first three albums are not included. That makes it NOT a complete recorded history of IE from Century Media. Considering some of the changes in the songs from originals to remasters. But oh well.

Yeah you're right, pretty weird!

Stormrider
|
According to the ad for the set in the May 08 issue of Metal Maniacs (see scan below) the whole set is remixed and remastered. Makes me wonder what was remixed and remastered. I mean they already did that with Dark Genesis, so the first three albums are those remixes. I guess the rest of the albums are remixed remastered. But I really need to listen closely to find out any differences.
One more thing, I know Jon doesn't endorse this set, but can some one tell my why he doesn't? If anyone knows. Cause they still don't have it on the official discography page.

Apparently Jon is one of the few good guys, in other words not a sell out. I constantly read stuff about him saying not to buy certain IE albums but rather buy other ones and what not. Still I wonder if they get any money from Century Media's sales of this set. It is their music, just cause they aint on the label anymore, I would assume would not discontinue their profits of future sales. But I don't know the buisness. I totally love this set basically for it's design and artwork, which is almost the only reason I got it (besides for my collection and the rare Hellspawn tracks, even though I already downloaded said tracks before). The lp style discs were the kicker in me finally getting the set.
I guess he endorsed Dark Genesis since he was still with the label then. But I still wonder why he doesn't endorse the set. Being on a different label is not reason enough to. But maybe like I said, he's not a sell out and he views this set as a sell out and or rip off to fans (I don't. I think it's a great set for fans). Oh well.

um when it comes to record companies they can own your soul. no joke.
meaning that box set has no duty to have any profit go to Shaffer or the band Iced Earth.
The songs are written by Jon and Iced Earth but ownership only applies for the sake of creative license.
If some1 had a song that sounded like stormrider to almost a T, then Iced Earth would have the right to call foul. As would the record lable that produced it.

If I had money to waste, I'd buy this set, but I already have every Iced Earth album so it's uneccessary. I wonder if Century Media screwed up the track lists and names like they did with The Blessed And The Damned.

That answers that part, but what about why Shaffer doesn't endorse it. Does he view it as merely a cash in on IE's fame by Century Media since Century Media can not release any new recordings and can only release what they already have? And even so why doesn't he have it on the discography page as he has the others (The rest of Century Media's releases including Dark Genesis and the individual released versions of the cds from that set)?
Does he not view it as an actual release? Like how Cradle Of Filth do NOT endorse the recent box set released by Koch records (since they are no longer on that label, but COF went on record as saying that it is basically a cash in and rip off to fans, for the reasons being that there is nothing new, no bonus tracks, and each cd is still available individually, Koch is just trying to re release the material they had when COF were on that label and it is not worth getting. That box set is NOT on COF's discog either) I haven't read or heard John's reasons, thought some one here might have. They may echo COF's reasons I don't know. It seems like almost the same situation except Century went all out with awesome artwork and packaging and included bonus and unreleased tracks (The two Hellspawn mixes).

you basically answered it yourself.
for what i know he hasn't made a statement concerning it.
all the albums have been re-issued and remixed and re mastered and thrown into a greatest compilation
a box set wasn't necessary because they had just brought the re-issues up.
This is another money grabber. Extra tracks are simply a better marketing venture.
Just think when they try to do this again.

They talk about on some interviews ago!
The guy just asked Jon what he fought about it, and Jon just said that it is CM and he has nothing to do with it (even though it's 100% his)!

Plus they just released the "lp" cd's on their own now anyway, so that is even more of a chance to get money from those who don't want to buy the box set.
