So I am officially a "religious agnostic" now.....

I have come to realize many things this weekend. They have to do with my beliefs, my objectives, and my life in general. This post is intended to inform those who do not yet know of my changes.

First of all, my beliefs. I am, as of today, a religious agnostic. What does that mean, you ask? It means that I still believe in God, but I have no proof that He exists and I do not wish to find it. It also means I am a Christian, but not a "radical" or "stereotypical" Christian. I never have been, in my eyes, but this opinion is debatable. I have not attended a church service in a long time. I never knew why before, but now I do. You see, the church and its followers are doing just that - following the church. They are not, per se, following God. While they tend to believe that they are, I do not think they are. Why? First of all, there are many things that are not covered in the Bible that Christians tend to say are. One of these subjects I found on the internet today. Here is an excerpt from the text.

"Maybe you never thought of this, but you should know that drug use opens you up to spiritual attack. Some Indians used to use peyote and other 'natural' substances to get high so that they could speak to their spiritual guides. I can tell you right now that those 'guides' weren't angels of God; they were Satan's devils. Satan will use drugs and alcohol to get a stronghold in your life. He loves it when you drink and get high. Satan wants you to be off guard and hallucinating. There are specific demonic spirits associated with liquor and marijuana and cocaine and heroin, and opium, etc., and every time you use these substances, you could unknowingly be opening the doorway for these demonic spirits to come into your life."

This person goes on to say that every time you use a substance, you open yourself to demonic possession. While this may be true to non-believers, if Jesus is in believer's hearts and He protects us from Satan and his followers, then why are we susceptible only when we use a substance? That's right, you're not. If Jesus is in your heart, then the demons cannot attack you, regardless if you are sober, stoned, drunk, high, or trippin' balls. The Christians seem to forget that Jesus protects us from evil spirits. Granted, it is horrible if someone abuses a substance such as marijuana or alcohol! But occasional use should not be seen as bad as it is, since if you use substances occasionally and responsibly, then I see nothing wrong with it [even though I don't usually participate]. And how does this individual know that the Indians were guided by evil spirits? They don't, do they? Unless they have a time machine, which I highly, highly doubt.

Another thing that Christians tend to say is that the Bible warns us against listening to any type of secular rock music. I'm not just talking about satanic music here, folks. I'm talking about everything ranging from The Beatles to Metallica. The Bible does say not to be deceived by non-believers, but it says nothing wrong with listening to any type of music. And those people that think Black Sabbath is satanic.....look up the lyrics to "After Forever".

So, in short, I am a religious agnostic. I still believe in God, I still believe that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, I still believe in the Bible. But I do not believe in and refuse to trust the church. There are too many people in the church that are wrapped up in their "holier than thou" attitudes that it makes me sick. You can say whatever you want, but I doubt it will change my opinion.

Now, onto my next point. My objectives. There are many things that I need to get done. One of these things is to get a job.

I need a job to support my current and future lifestyle. It has evolved from being helpful to being a necessity. I need to move out of this house and start my real life: working, going to college, getting a girl, and getting my damn band going.

I also need to get my license and my car. I have a car. It is a saturn that is currently owned by my dad's girlfriend. I have been given the OK to have the car, but it is still not in my possession. Why? My dad says he needs to change the transmission in it first. Alright, then friggin' change it already! I've been waiting for a month now!

And thirdly, my life. Oh wait, I just wrote a gigantic post that probably no one will read all the way through. And in this post I've said much about my life. So why do I need to reiterate myself?

Sorry about the big post.......but it needs to be said.
Feaněs

Well their is no need to excuse, its very brave to open you that way and show us what you think.

As for the religios point, I don't believe in god anymore, neither in any religion. I believe in spirits and something higher above, but I don't need a word or a name for it, like god or jesus.

That leads to the next thing, you can change your life and make it become whatever YOU want to. No god or anything else can do.
"It's up to you and the path you choose,
to be led to slaughter or lead the way".
It's good to have goals to hold on to. And if their is a god, you will find out, but don't trust in him, it is like Lemmy Kilmister said; "God was never on your side". I found that out myself, not so long ago.
In the past, I also used to believe and trust in god, but he is not there, and I noticed, that if I want to be happy or have a good life, cause changes or simply pull me out of the see of shit I was into, I have to do it myself.

So it's okay to write that in the forum, cause we all are brothers and minions of the watch, if someone needs to get something of his chest, that is the best place to do right?
Shorty

It is very brave if someone talks about such things (religion, church etc) and I respect you for the things you said, because I have a similar sight of these things. I stopped believe in a religion last year, I believe in a higher force, which fault was the "Big Bang", but thats it. This force is for me not something I call "God", because "God" is something which choose the path I shall follow after my death. If I did good things I shall live in paradise, if I was a sinner I shall suffer for eternity in hell. BUT almost every religion says "the non believers will know pain and suffering in hell". Well, that means everyone goes to hell. The most logical thing, would be reincarnation, but that is another story...

I am not a Christian anymore, but growed up as a Orthodox Christian and in my school (it's a greek school) everyone except me is Orthodox (and a girl which is "a bit" heretical, a month ago she didn't believe in Jesus, and yesterday, a friend told me, he saw her in church, because she missed it) So everyone taunt me as "Antichrist", "Satanist" etc, but no one will change my mind, that's for sure, and to be honest, I don't give a shit for their opinions. I will only see what's right, if I die, 'til then I have better things to do.

Everything above is just MY OPINION, please respect it. (I am sure you will, 'cause, like Feanis said, we all are brothers and minions of the watch)
Dante

Good speech!

To that anti-alcohol/anti-drugs priest,
didn't Jesus turn water into wine?

I don't believe in God or Jesus.
But if there is a God, he is meant to guide us and not punish or judge us.

Laughing Yeah that's right

Dante wrote:

Exactly! I don't understand why I should believe in "something" which likes to punish me (in the Christian belief this would be Satan, so who is now the good and who the bad?)

Another point is, that "God" is all-mighty (and this told me someone who is a fanatic Christian !!!) He said: "If God is all-mighty, why there is not just one religion?" Many times (before I lost my belief) I asked this question myself, but I didn't find an answer. Maybe God isn't all-mighty, maybe he/she/it is, I don't know.

I could do this the whole day long without an end, so I better stop before it gets out of control Mr. Green

I believe in god and Satan of course, and of course folks know where I stand on this. However my reasons for not being a christian is different. I have to disagree with what Dante said "But if there is a God, he is meant to guide us and not punish or judge us." If you read the bible (this has nothing to do with believing in his existence or not, kinda) he is indeed meant to punish us and judge us. He killed alot of folks (sinners and not) mostly for petty selfish reasons. He still does today. Satan was and never will be the cause of huge tragedies like the twin towers, tsunamies, hurricanes and what not. It is all gods fault (well the twin towers was brought about by humans, but god let it happen when he has the power to prevent it, man does not have the power to prevent things like that, god chose not to prevent it).

Now for those who don't believe in god, that is great, actually I should be an atheist too as there is no proof of either god or Satan. But oh well, here I am. I have nothing against atheist or christians that are normal, non judgmental types. I have issue with those that tell me that I am not supposed to hate god or christ. They'd say something like "I understand what you are saying but don't hate god", which is stupid, really. Why not hate god? He deserved my hatred. Plus I never say or never have said that anyone else besides myself should hate god. That is something I have been doing since Iwas about 8 years old and still hate him to this day.

Anyway I applaud Set Abominae for his post. Why? Because he is like me, in the sense that he won't let anyone try to make him change his opinion and feelings on god and religion in general. I believe you should live and believe or not believe as you feel you'd be happiest with. There are exceptions though, but I won't get into that right now.
Dante

Yeah your right Stormrider.

But I didn't mean the Christian God.
I just meant a "almighty spiritual creature of some sort".

I believe in the Super Devil, which was recently discovered:

CNN wrote:
Vatican scientists have announced that the devil is not the greatest threat to salvation due to the recent discovery of the Super Devil. The Super Devil is at least six inches taller than the Devil, rides a flying motorcycle, and carries a jar of marmalade which is believed to cause adultery.

I read this today in the bible from Matthew 23

8 But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.
9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.
11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
16 Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.'
17 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.'
19 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it.
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it.
22 And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
24 Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

It was, since I just cracked my NKJV open today to do a devotion, flipped to a random page, and it was that chapter. Pretty funny to me at least.

And yes, it's true, most pastors and such use the KJV, but I use the New King James Version, it's more understandable to me, and like I said before, I don't trust the church, so I tossed my KJV today.
Stormrider

There's a NEW KJV? Didn't know that, but than I hadn't cracked open a bible in well over a decade anyway.
Shorty

My bible is in ancient and new Greek  Mr. Green
