Sometime around the release of Night Of The Stormrider. I had never heard of IE before and when I saw the album in the store that day, I knew it was going to be awesome, and that was judging solely on the album cover artwork. So basically it was the WHOLE album that got me into the band but to get technical the first song I heard obviously was track 1 Angels Holocaust.

Stand Alone was my first i believe. I stole the cd from my brother and listen to it, and for some reason I listened to that song first.

Dark Saga.
I bought the cd without knowing anything about them. I was actually looking for a new Maiden CD (in the days before I had a PC). I seen the cover art and seen the capital "I" so I grabbed it thinking it was Maiden. After realizing it wasn't .I decided to buy it anyway . the artwork intrigued me.
I listened to the song Dark Saga and I Died For You in the parking lot of the store. After I heard those two songs I went back into the store and bought burnt offerings and Something wicked(which had just been released).I have been pushing their name ever since.
Sorry about the long post.

That's interesting. So, you purchased an Iced Earth cd thinking it was Maiden? Sounds like a mistake I would make...

I listened to "Terror Train" by Demons and Wizards before I listened to Iced Earth. Does that count? My first Iced Earth song might have been The Reckoning, it was something Tim Ripper Era.

i guess I'll tell my story. when i was 15 i thought Marilyn Manson and Slipknot and Korn were metal. yeah, i was a nu-metal freak. this one dude i was friends wit in art class told me to try out this band instead of poser shit, and he let me listen to Dante's inferno, the reason being was that at the time i was reading Dante's inferno (the book). I thought it sounded badass and diffrent so I asked him about the band. He made a list of all their albums, followed by the statement "i'm not making you all those fucking cds" so I asked him for the album with the song I just heard and the next day he gave me a copy of AiA (3 cd). After that I was hooked, and a week later he gave me a data cd with all the IE albums on it.

Hmm, surprised I haven't posted here. Oh well.
I was 15. A friend of mine, Tony, got me into Sabbath, Maiden and Metallica [I was into Stryper and Quiet Riot, but I mainly liked alternative]. Then, my friend Clinton gave me a burnt copy of SWTWC. I listened to that CD from front to back until it crapped out on me.
So my first IE track was Burning Times

The very first song i've heard of them was "Jack" from a compilation cd called The "History of Metal: Power metal". I wasn't really hooked by it and forgot the band until I got "Alive in Athens".
Well, nowadays I consider "Jack" to be a great song but back then it was a little too raw and heavy for my taste.

My first taste of IE was Angel's Holocaust from NotSR. I was in Middle School when it came out and was just being introduced to heavy metal.

I think it was Pure evil on the Alive in Athens cd, I loved it immediately, the next day I went to the shop to buy the 3 cd box, and later on I saw that I had a rare misprint version of it, where on the back cover print you see the band banner in the photograph spelled backwards

Don't exactly remember. I think it was Dracula. (or Wolf, I'm not sure at the moment). But anyway, I heard it, and fell in love with this voice.
And this didn't only got me into IE, also into the "real" metal.

Dark Saga. A friend burned me a copy of Dark Saga, and I was hooked (not to mention that SPAWN is a fucking awesome comic book). Now, I own every Iced Earth album (original and remaster). Vengeance Is Mine is my favorite song off that album.

Burnt Offerings.
I was looking to get into Iced Earth from the sheer awesomeness of their album covers, but i heard that this album was the best or at least it had the highest reviews. It was probably a mistake. The copy of the title track i got was 64 kbps and therefore sounded like a symphonic black metal band. I loved the chorus of this song but to be honest it was in such bad quality that i did not realise how good the rest of the song was. So i was reading later that they had in fact taken a black metal approach with Burnt Offerings and their early albums were thrashier, so i had to check them out. Long story short, I play Night Of The Stormrider everyday. It is my favourite album. Everything about it is perfect. The darkness, combined with the speed and the riffs brought me something new. The story also makes it compelling too. I love the first album as well. When i listened to other metal bands such as Metalllica, Megadeth , Blind Guardian and Maiden, i always envisioned combining those styles into one band. And Iced Earth have done that, and have also introduced me to symphonic and heavier metal as a result (even thought they are not quite symphonic black metal, they are a sort of gateway drug into liking it). I will always love the early albums better, simply because they have become less riffy and more like a traditional metal band, but i still love them, and after completely going off them once i heard The Glorious Burden thanks to Tim Owens' voice, i was thrilled to hear that Matt Barlow was returning. So hopefully after the boxed set has been released, they can make a traditional album again. Let's hope so.

I known Iced Earth because of a friend of mine who lends me Spawn's comic books, so he had The Dark Saga (it was at 2000 for what i can remember), i listened the first track, "Dark Saga", then "I Died for You" and oh man, HOW I LOVE THOSE SONGS! After that, i did the same with Violate, and it was like a BOMB in my ass XD. BTW, the CD was broken and i could not listen the other songs, so i just wanted to meet another person to borrow the CD, and that's how i born as a new IE fan :B (sorry, i was a fuckin' poor kid with no money, even now it's hard to me buy a CD, it's like € 18-20 around here...:S).
