i would have been fine with the idea of Owens staying in Iced Earth. Though I always wanted to see Barlow live so basically i want my cake and eat it too.
whatever happens, happens. They had similar attributes with either focusing on the opposites major strength. The fact that Barlow has had the most material with Iced Earth makes him the best singer for Iced Earth. Just because his voice is recognized. Comparing them in skill is like apples and oranges. if you like fruit (metal lol) youll like both. |

like jon said he followed the bass and drums more as where tim flowed with the guitar better. tim indeed had a good voice. he could have done more with the saga yet i still love it soo much with matt. soo im basically agreeing with the guy above me. if you like fruit you'll like them both. |

BARLOW IS THE BEST FUCKIN' SHIT IN THE WORLD. I don't know Tim Owens...hahaha joke...xD Owens sings pretty good SOME STUFF, but i never liked his performances on IE, i think TGB and FA are the worse IE releases, but fuck, i don't know who other guy could fit on Matt's shoes :/....but i hate the stupid people saying Tim Owens sing better than Matt, This song sound better than Matt...WHAT THE FUCK! Matt sing all the stuff fuckin' brilliant! Which song sound better with Owens? Fuck, Matt owns ALWAYS.
BTW, Owens sings the Judas Priest stuff better than Halford, and that's the fuckin' truth. No way with "Rob Halford is the best metal singer ever", taht's not true, he is a legend, he makes history, i admire him and i know WHO he is, but he isn't THE best and Tim Owens SINGS better in than Halford IMO, and that is a great point for Owens (no way with his NO-stage presence...that sucks hardly zZzZzZzZzZzzzzzz...). I think Owens should focus on Beyond Fear, and leave that Yngwie shit, that is one of the most stupid things that he did: Join with a band where the vocals are SOOOOOOOO disposable. Owens is a great singer, doing stupid things on his career, replacing and replacing Great guys. He SHOULD sing only for Beyond Fear, kick ass band  .

Im Halfords prime, I'm pretty sure he's much better. He's now old, and Tim could blow him out of the water. And I don't know whats so great about Beyond Fear... I've listened to thier album and I like two songs off of it. That's it. Great vocals, but the material sucks. |

but halford cant sing the same shit anymore. but they're new shit's fucking AMAZING compared to the old sutff its much more leaning towards powermetal then old heavy metal. anyways, ripper has made many mistakes in his carrer. and i agree that he should just stay with beyond fear. |

in all honesty Halford really mastered anything. He only led the charge to change. Early on, he just sang like every other early metalhead would. then the started kicking towards his high notes, even then they were not the highlight of the vocal lines. Look at Green Manilishi(wt2pc) and Breaking the Law. No breaking glass in sight. Alot of JP was in the moderate to low end. They began to bring it out more and more in the later albums, but by then, little Timmy was listening to British Steel and rocking out. Screaming for Vengeance is another example. The title track is the only song that showcases Halford ripping it. Ripper took a new style and mastered it into his own. If you got a time machine and made them vocal fight to the death, Ripper would probably win. I decided to listen to some Yngwie material. Ripper will destroy what talent the old singer brought. Area 51/Hanger 18 would be sick live. |

no Tim wants to sing in metal bands. He went into JP with full intentions of hoping Halford would return. He went into IE, cus he liked the music and wanted to be in another legendary band.
The music biz is hell, he knows it can be and what can come of it. He seems to be over it, when his zealous nut huggers will is up in the air The Ripper is a trooper when it comes to this. Despite the bullshit, he took it as well as any1 could have. He has THREE bands right now. 2 of which will most definetly not kick him out. Hope to see all 3 live someday too with him of course. Otherwise, i wouldn't go see Yngwie. I don't need to spend my money for a dude who will solo away for a time while the singer is forgotten. Ripper should make him feel forgotten for all i care. |

I thought Tim did a great job with Iced Earth, but in all honesty, he just didn't fit with the rest of the band in my eyes. Matt Barlow's perfect for it, and I'm so glad to see he's returned...

for me its this in order of importance.
Winters Bane > Iced Earth > Judas Priest > Yngwie > Beyond Fear. Scream Machine was the only song i really enjoyed. And i can see Ripper doing some good versions of the older yngwie singers as well as some kickass new material. Winters Bane is the shit |

I think Tim Owens is one of the best singers around. Whatever it's live or on studio albums he always does a amazing performence. Too bad he has now ended up in Yngwie Malmsteen, not that Yngwie is bad but Tim deserves a better band.
The best thing would be that Judas Priest would kick out Halford (good singer on albums but live he's among the worst) and bring back Tim Owens, that would really be a dream for me. and for me, It really dosn't matter if it's Tim or Matt behind the microphone, they are both awesome. Can't judge atm if it was a good call to bring Matt back, but after I've heard "The Crucible of Man" I will hear. |

Halford has always been a very overrated singer. I have bootlegs spawning over the entire Judas Priest career and he's such a terrible live singer. And Tim Owens does a far better job with many old Priest classics (for example Desert Plains, Heading Out to the Highway, A Touch of Evil). And the albums Priest has done after the classic reunion is both quite average. Both Jugulator and Demolition was WAY better than Angel of Retrobution and Nostradamus. So IMO, Tim Owens should rejoin Priest. Then Halford could also focus on his solo band which is actually awesome! |

Halford did kick ass at Metal Masters. That and he is starting to add death growls to a song or two.
That being said I liked Ripper's material for Judas Priest. Jugulator had more songs I liked than Angel of Retribution. But I wouldn't downplay all the work Halford did with the band. Sad Wings of Destiny, British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, and Painkiller albums are undeniably good. |

With all this Owens hate, what if Jon didn't get Owens, and got a new comer that no one knows, that sounded worse than Gene Adams? It could of shot Iced Earth down, letting them burn where they land...there was a lot of people who bought TGB and Framing just for Owens. I know I've gotten a lot of people into Iced Earth by just saying "Yeah, they just got a new singer, he was in Judas for awhile!", and I'm sure a lot of people have done the same, so give the guy a damn break! | ||||

I wouldn't say he mooched off other ppls fame. he was asked to join JP and IE. It had been a years after Halford left the band that Ripper was auditioned. In fact His original work on Heart of a Killer album for Winters Bane. He was well known to many before he was scouted out by some of Scott Travis' friends. He can write music. At least Scream Machine and the Lyrics for the Heart of a Killer album are epic. |

Well actually, we all know and I know, that Barlow kicks ass, and most important of all, he kicks ass best with IE, cause he IS the voice of IE.
BUT I'll have to say, Tim wasn't and isn't a bad singer. He is one of the most talented frontman I've seen. I really like him although I know that Matt is the man. With IE well, many didn't like him, because they say the voice was shit. Okay, so everyone has to make his own decission about THAT. But stop picking at the guy in a personal way, cause that makes me fucking angry. If someone says he don't likes the voice, or his live performance, well, we are a music forum, it is okay to give comments, but many people are just getting too personal.... Don't know, what do you guys think about that? |

I have high hopes for this. The Yngwie stuff was good. Owen's knows that Scream Machine was the best song on the debut cd. So more songs will be along that strain. Though a Winters Bane album would be nice. besides with all those different musicians come some diversity. There maybe songs I won't like but I doubt it. |

I think he should rejoin Priest or do a side project with some of the JP guys. Although the studio albums with him were terrbile (wich was imo the fault of Downing and Tipton), this would be the only right solution, cause who listened to the live albums with Tim knows, that is the stuff he can and should do. | ||||
